Membership Meeting and December Program: December 18th, 2pm

Dear Traverse Area Historical Society Member,

Immediately prior to our monthly program at the McGuire Room at the Traverse District Library on Woodmere Avenue on December 18, 2016 at 2:00 PM, we will hold a brief membership meeting to seek your approval of two changes to our Articles of Incorporation.

The proposed changes are as follows:

  1. While we have been using the do business as name “Traverse Area Historical Society”, our legal name has remained the “History Center of Traverse City”. We are seeking your support to formalize our name change:

Change of the organization’s name in Article I of the Articles of Incorporation:

Existing Name: History Center of Traverse City

New Name: Traverse Area Historical Society

  1. Change of the organization’s purpose in Article II of the Articles of Incorporation:

Existing Purpose:  The purpose is to encourage appreciation, use, and funding of the Con Foster Museum in Traverse City and the Traverse City area, Michigan.  Said corporation is organized, exclusively for charitable, religious, educational and scientific purposes, including, for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954 (or the corresponding provisions of any future United States Internal Revenue Law).

New Purpose: The purpose of the Traverse Area Historical Society is to preserve, protect, and present the history of the Grand Traverse region.

We hope you will join us for this membership meeting and stay for our December program entitled:  “Christmas from the Archives: Vignettes of Christmas from Traverse City’s Past,” presented by past Historical Society Archivist, Peg Siciliano.  Images of Northern Michigan winter holidays will accompany stories of Christmas happenings from Traverse City’s past. Christmas items from the historical archives will be displayed.

Thank you.

Stephen Siciliano
President, Traverse Area Historical Society
